Jimi Hocking’s guitar playing began when his father, Kevin Hocking, a well known pianist and composer, realised that Jimi was more interested in Chuck Berry than in his piano lessons.

Jimi left school as a teenager, to try his hand at supporting himself as a musician, mainly playing covers on the Melbourne music scene.

Wishing to front his own outfit, Jimi formed the “Astro-Boys”, an outfit that played to enthusiastic audiences all over Victoria.

Noticed by an ABC producer, Jimi then had a career as a writer of music for TV and films, all the while continuing with the Astro Boys, who released a Top 20 EP in 1987.

In 1988, Jimi joined the Angels for a hugely successful Australian tour. He then launched his own band, Jimi the Human & Spectre 7 - whose live album “No Turning Back” reached Number 14 on the Victorian charts.

During the 90’s Jimi spent time as lead guitarist for the Screaming Jets, who he had joined in 1993.

In 1999, he left the ‘Jets to resume his own career, which is currently doing very successfully.

In 2001, Jimi achieved one of his long held ambitions when he travelled to the USA to perform is distinctive style of Blues at the legendary CBGB’s club in New York. His tour of the USA was a success with return bookings being offered.

Jimi is a consummate performer - a believer in entertaining an audience as well as a superb musician.
